Previously we purchased the Kaiweets KM601 Smart Digital Multimeter which cost ₹3500/$45. It is pretty helpful for us still. So, we wanted to try the HT208D Inrush Clamp Meter (6000 Counts). In this post, we will see how to use the HT208D Inrush clamp meter and its review.

HT208D Inrush Clamp Meter
The Kaiweets HT208D is a fairly inexpensive inrush clamp meter. This multimeter can accurately measure 1000 Amp AC/DC Current, 1000V AC/DC Voltage, Frequency, Duty Cycle, Resistance, Capacitance, Diode, Continuity, and Temperature. Easy to use for Labs, factories, and households. KAIWEETS HT208D Clamp Meter can be a perfect choice for car service workshops or other places with difficult environmental conditions. It has basic functions which enable the measurement of AC/DC voltage, AC/DC current, resistance, capacitance, frequency, temperature, and inrush current.

Knowing the value of inrush current can help you locate a startup problem quickly, whether it’s in the motor or in the starting circuit. The measuring time of the inrush current is about 100ms. Built-in Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Detector can easily and quickly determine whether there is a voltage. A convenient LED flashlight illuminates a dimly lit area. The Clamp Meter also has Variable Frequency Drive Filtering (VFD) and low Input Impedance (LoZ) modes, which can provide higher accuracy readings.
Unlike the KM601 smart digital multimeter that we tested some time ago, there is a dial that allows you to manually choose the type of measurement that you intend to do.
And it has a digital display with a backlight, a couple of test probes, thermo-couple for measuring the temperature. But the most important thing is, the clamp itself is used to check a live wire. The device is clearly targeted toward mechanics or any other automotive repair DIY enthusiasts. The main advantage of a clamp meter such as KAIWEETS HT208D is that you can measure AC current without having to break the circuit, making it more convenient to use than a traditional test lead multimeter.

Design of HT208D
There are three buttons, above the display.
- RAN Button
- MIN/MAX Button
- REL/ZERO Button
The RAN button is used to cycle through all the available ranges (holding it for 2 seconds restores the range values to default). The MAX/MIN button is used to set the specific value range. The REL/ZERO button will behave differently depending on the mode the clamp meter is set at that moment. When we measure the DC, the button is used to set the magnetization effects to zero, but in any other mode, the button will default to REL and it is used to store the current reading, setting a reference point for the next reading.
On top of those three buttons, the FUNC button is available. That button will cycle through the available secondary functions when checking out a specific measurement (for example, switching between DC and AC)
The round Dial is available above those buttons, which is used to select the available functions – it moves counter-clockwise, from the OFF position to NCV/LIVE.
Then they have given the clamp on top of this. It is opened by pushing on the lever from the side of the device. The clamp function is super easy to use. Open the spring-loaded clamp jaws, circle in the live wire, and close. The clamp will measure the AC current in the live wire by detecting the magnetic field emitted by the current flowing through the wire.
On the right side, there is an H/Light button is present. When we press that button once, it will hold the current stable measurement. If we press the hold button for more than 2 seconds, it will turn ON the LED which is present at the top of the Kaiweets HT208D. The flashlight won’t be turned ON if the round dial is set to OFF.
Then we can insert the probes through the bottom of the HT208D.
